Hello and welcome to the West Coast Branch! We are glad to be part of the Tampa Bay Community. Our counties include Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough. One of the best Civil Engineering Schools in the state is right here in Tampa: The University of South Florida. Go Bulls!

The Civil Engineering Profession has been around for centuries and we strive to continue with the enrichment of the lives of our local engineers through Networking Luncheons, Educational Seminars, Fun Outings, and Monthly Updates via our Newsletter.

December's Luncheon will be held on December 18, 2008 at 11:30 AM. Please note our new location this month: The Alfano Conference and Banquet Center at 11606 N. McKinley Dr. in Tampa. The topic is "Quality Control and How to Stop the 'Oops' Effect." The speakers are Kelli Peters and Mary sheets, both of FDOT District 7. The cost is $20 payable by cash or a check made out to ASCE WCB. Please RSVP to Matthew Crosby by the close of business on December 17, 2008.

The ASCE West Coast Branch is excited to announce that this year's Engineer of the Year Award will be presented at this year's Tampa Bay Engineers Week Banquet. We hope that our members will take advantage of the opportunity to submit nominations for the award. Please consider the information and criteria listed in our award guidelines before making a nomination. The purpose of this award is to honor an outstanding engineer who, through his or her endeavors and activities, has made an outstanding contribution to the society and the engineering profession. To make a nomination, please send the name, email address, and phone number of the nominee to Dane Hanson, no later than December 19, 2008. A nomination form will then be sent to the candidate to be filled out for final consideration.

Come celebrate Engineers Week 2009 with your fellow engineers at the first annual Tampa Bay Engineers Week Banquet. The Banquet is being planned by a joint effort of engineering societies of the Bay, including the Association for Facilities Engineering, IEEE, ASHE, FES of Tampa and Pinellas, ASME, SAME, and AIChE. The Banquet will be held on February 20, 2009 at the Tampa Bay Grand Hyatt. There will be a Vendor Expo in conjunction witha Cocktail Reception from 5:30-7:00 PM and Dinner with a Speaker and awards from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The cost is $55 per person. This year's golf tournament took place on November 21 at Heritage Isles Golf and Country Club. Prizes were awarded to the overall winning team, longest drive, and female longest drive, among others. Congratulations to the Jacobs team for the winning team, to Connie Johnson-Gearhart for female longest drive, and Bob Ivy the grand prize winner of the digital camera! A great time was had by all the participants, and we hope you can join us next year for another round of golf!
