Julian W. Silliman Award
Dr. Wayne Echelberger Scholarship

The West Coast Branch of the Florida Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers desires to assist students with the increasing costs associated with the college education required of today’s civil engineers. ASCE West Coast Branch expects to award two recipients for $1,000 each in FY 2023-2024 for this purpose. Only one award will be made to an applicant in any single year.

The awards will be presented at the joint USF Student Chapter-West Coast Branch meeting held each year. Applications must be completed and submitted online at https://asce-wcb.org/scholarships no later than April 12, 2024, 5:00 P.M. ET. The applicant must be a full time student for the Fall 2024 semester. Applicant may be a co-op student.

The selection committee shall consist of the following: the current ASCE President and Past President of the West Coast Branch, the USF Practitioner Advisor(s), and the USF ASCE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor.

The criteria for selection of the awards shall be based on several weighted parameters:

40 20 1. Demonstrated participation and leadership within the ASCE Student Chapter at USF.
10 10 2. Financial need of the student.
15 10 3. Participation within other student and professional organizations and activities.
5 20 4. Scholastic achievement.
15 10 5. Letters of recommendation.
5 10 6. Quality of application.
10 20 7. Work experience.

The application form shall be relatively non-structured to allow the applicants to have as much flexibility in describing their talents and needs. Transcript(s) and a minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation from faculty members, employers or practicing engineers shall be required as part of the application. A letter of recommendation from any member of the selection committee will not be accepted.
